A new campaign of fake emails impersonating Caja Rural has been detected
Attackers try to deceive the user receiving the email, pretending to be from Caja Rural, under the pretext of a new update from their bank, directing the user to a fake website to steal their login credentials and banking information.
If you are a Caja Rural client, have received an email of this kind, and have entered any information on the website such as NIF, password, banking details, etc., you should immediately contact your bank to explain what happened.
SOFT LINE also recommends that you change the password for all services where you use that same password, since attackers, once they know one of your passwords, may try to use it for other services you might have (email, social networks, etc.).
As additional preventive measures, always keep in mind the advice provided by banks and financial institutions:
- Close all applications or programs before accessing their website.
- Type the entity’s URL directly in the browser instead of reaching it through links available on third-party pages or in emails.
- If you prefer to use the bank’s app for your procedures, make sure you download the official application.
- Do not access online banking from public, untrusted devices or devices connected to public Wi-Fi networks.
And as a general rule for safe email usage, SOFT LINE advises:
- Do not open suspicious emails from unknown senders or emails you did not expect. And never reply to those emails.
- Do not trust attachments or links that appear in suspicious messages, poorly written emails, emails with spelling mistakes, or poorly translated content.
- If you access a website through one of those links, check that the page is secure in the browser bar and that its certificate corresponds to the company you think you are entering. If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of the site, contact the entity by phone.
You can never be too careful. Always keep a backup copy stored away from the original data location to prevent potential infections, data loss, and other disasters.
At SOFT LINE we will be happy to advise you on cybersecurity whenever you need it.
