In recent days, SOFT LINE has received numerous reports from users with questions about emails they have received, claiming to be a burofax with a final warning. After analyzing these emails, we have determined that they are completely fake, attempting to impersonate an online notification service, and their real purpose is to infect the recipient’s computer with malware.

The received email pretends to be a burofax from an online notification service, on behalf of a supposed law firm, and has the subject Online Burofax Sending - Final Warning. [9292872]. The number in brackets may vary in each email sent by the attackers, and the subject line itself may also change. In the body of the message, it includes the details of the alleged legal department sending the burofax and some barcodes that simulate a delivery note from the legal department to the telematic delivery company, giving the email a sense of credibility. At the end of the email, there is a link supposedly to download the files containing the burofax, which in reality would download malware.

SOFT LINE reminds you to carefully inspect any email of suspicious origin. And, as always, remember to have antivirus protection and a backup system stored in a location separate from the original data, or in the Cloud, to ensure data restoration in case of loss due to infection or encryption.
